Under new law, cats and ferrets in Evansville must have microchip

EVANSVILLE — Dog, cat and ferret owners in Evansville’s city limits will now be required to microchip their pets under an updated city ordinance.

The Evansville City Council voted 8-0 to approve Ordinance G-2026-05 earlier this week. The ordinance replaces the previous city license tag requirement with a microchip rule. Ben Trockman, D-First Ward, was absent at the meeting.
