“Thank you for saving my life”: Deaconess doctor reunites with rare heart attack survivor

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Deaconess is celebrating the work of its heart team after helping a rare heart attack patient.

Just last year, 62-year-old Tammy Schmittler suffered a massive heart attack known as the widowmaker. Despite the odds against her, the heart team at Deaconess installed a pump to her heart giving them the chance to save her life.

“It felt absolutely miraculous and beautiful,” says Schmittler. “Getting up there. The amount of grace and the amount of gratefulness I have, I can’t express.”…
