USI to expand outdoor learning with $150,000 environmental grant

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The University of Southern Indiana is launching a three-year project to expand outdoor education and recreation at its nature preserve, fueled by a $150,000 grant from the National Environmental Education Foundation.

The project, titled “Nature’s Classroom: Bridging Education and Recreation,” receives additional support from Toyota Motor North America. Work focuses on enhancing the USI–Burdette Park Trail and the university’s adjacent 730-acre nature preserve to serve university students, K-12 groups, and the general public.

Plans for the site include a large outdoor learning pavilion with seating for 30 people, which officials say will serve as a hub for year-round STEM programming…
