Stolen guns, fentanyl seized in Evansville drug bust, sheriff’s office says

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — A man accused of dealing fentanyl and illegally possessing firearms was arrested Monday following a brief pursuit and standoff with law enforcement, according to the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force.

Detectives said they began receiving information in February that Kejuane Deonte Broomfield was distributing fentanyl from his home in the 900 block of Birchwood Court. After an investigation, authorities arrested Broomfield on charges of dealing in a narcotic drug and obtained a search warrant for his apartment.

On March 30, 2026, authorities said they attempted to stop Broomfield’s vehicle near the intersection of Woodbridge Drive and Branchwood Drive. Instead of pulling over, Broomfield was accused of trying to flee, striking several detectives’ vehicles during the attempt, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officers reported they were able to disable Broomfield’s vehicle and prevent his escape. Police said Broomfield refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle, prompting detectives to break the driver’s side window and deploy pepperball rounds before he eventually surrendered and was taken into custody…
