Stray Mama Dog Finally Rescued After 3 Years on the Run in Evansville
Yesterday, It Takes a Village posted that they finally caught up with a stray mama dog that had been evading them for three years.
A Stray Mama Dog Finally Gets a Second Chance
The rescue group out of Evansville is a no-kill shelter and first became aware of the unaltered black Lab mix several years ago. During that time, she had multiple litters of puppies. The rescue successfully captured, vetted, and rehomed all of the puppies, but mama stayed on the run, surviving scorching summers, parasites, freezing winters, and the harsh reality of outdoor life completely on her own.

Evansville Rescue Captures Dog After Years on the Run
Yesterday, though, time was finally on the side of the persistent rescue team. They were able to safely capture Mama. It had to be a terrifying moment for her. She’s lived wild for so long and now has no idea what her future holds. But she’s finally in good hands.
Even though she was clearly an incredible mama, she’s now being spayed so she won’t have to care for any more puppies. She’s also receiving good nutrition, veterinary care, and something she likely hasn’t had in years: a warm, soft bed to sleep in.
This Stray Dog Survived Indiana Winters Alone for Years
Despite living feral for so long, she appears to be friendly with her handlers. The rescue plans to evaluate what her future may look like over the coming weeks. The medium-sized dog, who looks to me like a Lab mix, has absolutely stunning eyes. The rescue hasn’t shared a name for her yet, but we’ll update you when they do.
In the meantime, the organization can use all the donations it can get to help cover her spay, vetting costs, and housing…
