RED SPRINGS — The Red Springs Artspace hosted the opening reception of “575 | Recognition” last Wednesday evening.
The juried exhibition, a competitive showcase of artwork, features the works of 20 local artists and is a celebration to honor the Lumbee Tribe’s recent achievement of full federal recognition.
After the 137-year struggle, federal lawmakers passed the Lumbee Fairness Act in Dec. 2025. Known as the People of the Dark Water, the Lumbee are the largest tribe east of the Mississippi River and are primarily based in Robeson County.
