Lumbee Tribal Council Votes to Explore Gaming Options After Amendment Fails

The Lumbee Tribal Council voted 17-1 to let its attorney look into ways the tribe could start gaming operations, according to The Robesonian. This came after tribal members rejected a constitutional amendment on a related issue. The vote happened during an emergency meeting two days after more than 62% of voters said no.

Councilman Jody Bullard made the motion, per the report. He wanted legal counsel to examine all options for the federally recognized tribe to pursue hospitality and entertainment, which includes gaming. Councilman Billy Oxendine cast the only dissenting vote, and three members were absent.
