Fans of flavor in Fayetteville, N.C., are already familiar with Chef Yohei Kamiya (Chef Yohei), the powerful personality behind Ichi-Kaku 一角 Ramen Japanese Restaurant.
Since opening its doors in March of 2022, Ichi-Kaku has been providing authentic Japanese street food, tonkotsu ramen and teppanyaki, bringing inspiration and tastes from his original home in Nagoya, Japan, to Fayetteville.
In April 2021, Yohei moved his family from Charlotte to Fayetteville with the intention of purchasing and taking over another ramen restaurant. He worked there while preparing for the transition, but after months of discussions, the deal ultimately fell through. With his entire family already relocated to Fayetteville, simply returning to Charlotte was no longer a realistic option. Then, at what felt like the very last possible moment, Yohei happened to find the location that is now home to Ichi-Kaku. According to Yohei, it felt almost like a miracle, and he knew this was his only path forward. He took the opportunity and made the decision to open a restaurant of his own…
