MAXTON — The Robeson County Honor Guard is seeking more veteran volunteers to join their organization and carry out their mission of ensuring as many veterans as possible are laid to rest with full honors.
The Honor Guard was established in 1993 and operates in Robeson, Hoke, Cumberland and several other surrounding counties, according to Honor Guard member and veteran Ron Mears. When they learn of an upcoming funeral for a veteran, the Honor Guard sends a group to attend and perform the full military honors awarded to deceased soldiers.
Full military funerals are only available if the deceased was a career soldier or was killed in combat, Mears said…
