A new charter school in Harnett County that would be managed by a for-profit company and draw students from as far away as Wake County has received initial state approval.
The N.C. Charter Schools Review Board unanimously approved the application Monday from American Leadership Academy Capeton to open in 2028 in Lillington. The new school would be managed by Charter One, an Arizona-based education management company that will be paid to run the day-to-day operations.
“ALA Capeton will serve families of Harnett County and nearby counties,” said Dawn Forrest, chair of ALA Capeton’s board of directors. “It provides another high-quality public school choice for parents who believe this educational model is the best choice for their families. We believe the growth is clear, family interest is demonstrated and the need for additional educational choice is real.”…
