The controversial red-light camera program originally shut down November 2022 is set to be back in operation by July 2027, according to a recent Request For Proposal(RFP) in City Council September 28, 2026. The new program reiterates its predecessor’s core purpose which is to reduce crashes at busy intersections, and as required by state law must generate revenue for schools.
The city’s proposal states red-light cameras are also being used to prepare for a previously passed state bill allowing for authorized cities and counties to implement automated speed safety cameras in school zones, according to the Fayetteville Observer.
