High diesel prices squeeze Fayetteville farmers as red-dyed fuel gets green light

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A temporary change allowing farmers to use red-dyed, off-road diesel in road vehicles could help lower fuel costs, but some farmers say they’re not ready to fill up just yet.

President Donald Trump and North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein are allowing the temporary use of red-dyed diesel on highways through the end of the year. The fuel is normally used in off-road equipment, including tractors, and is exempt from highway fuel taxes.
