Chancer McLaughlin will step down as Hope Mills town manager on Nov. 20. He has run the town for three and a half years. McLaughlin confirmed his resignation in a text message to The Fayetteville Observer on Friday, Oct. 23.
Back on June 22, the Hope Mills Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 against renewing his contract, which was set to run out in March 2027. Commissioners Lisa Tremmel and Cynthia Hamilton, along with Mayor Pro Tem Hope Page, voted to end it. Commissioners Bryan Marley and Grilley Mitchell voted no.
“Serving the Town of Hope Mills has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my professional career,” McLaughlin said, per the Fayetteville Observer. “Over the past 12 years, I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated employees, community leaders, elected officials, and citizens who share a commitment to making Hope Mills a better place to live, work, and raise a family. My decision to move forward is rooted in my desire to continue growing as a professional, embrace new challenges, and build upon the experience I have gained throughout my career in local government.”…
