FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — An ex-Fort Liberty soldier was sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday after he pleaded guilty to various charges following a drug raid at his Fayetteville home in February of last year and money laundering involving cryptocurrency, officials said Friday and in court documents.
Gordon Ray Custis, 26, of Fayetteville was caught with over 60 pounds of illicit African-sourced ketamine, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of North Carolina.
Custis was sentenced to 15 years in prison on a guilty plea in September of possession with the intent to distribute ketamine, conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute ketamine; and money laundering, officials said.
The case started in early May 2021 when French Customs Service stationed at Charles De Gaulle International Airport told U.S. officials that a package from Cameroon in Central Africa was intercepted containing approximately three kilograms of ketamine, the news release said.
