Local Special Forces group works to bridge gap between active duty soldiers and retired veterans

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – The Special Forces Association is a fraternal organization headquartered in Fayetteville, North Carolina with chapters across the country.

Chapter President Pat Fensom said one of the organization’s focuses is the legacy of the Green Berets and supporting active duty soldiers.

“It’s really to bridge that gap between the active duty and then those that retire or not necessarily retire, but you know, complete their service in the military,” said Fensom.

The upstate chapter started two years ago and stays active in the community.

“We’ve taught a course at Furman University as part of their continuing education program called ‘Ollie,’ Fensom explained. “And we’ve we’ve taught two classes on the history of the Green Berets.”

The association recognizes R.O.T.C. cadet services and gives the ‘Never Back Down’ award to young people.

“This award is to recognize a young person who had as you know, early in life, gone through some very challenging obstacles and overcome those obstacles,” said Fensom.
