Future Black History Makers: Meet Amiyah McCormick, a first-grader at J.W. Coon Elementary

Amiyah McCormick, 6, the daughter of Jeremiah and Tashonda McCormick, is in first grade at J.W. Coon Elementary School.

She was nominated as a Future Black History Maker because “Amiyah has several qualities that make her a Future Black History Maker,” writes her mom, Tashonda McCormick, who nominated her. “Her intelligence, articulation, and charisma beyond her years hint at a young leader in the making. What truly sets Amiyah apart is her extraordinary kindness. At such a tender age, she harbors a deep concern for the homeless and has a remarkable ability to bring happiness to those around her. She is a radiant light in her family’s life, always striving to make her mom, dad and big sister laugh. Amiyah has made her presence known in the entertainment industry, being featured in ads and short films. She also has a love for science and her desire is to become an engineer when she grows up, a testament to her determination to challenge stereotypes and break down barriers. In essence, Amiyah’s early achievements, her heart full of empathy and her aspirations speak to her potential to make a profound impact on Black history.”
