On February 5, 2024, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners met in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Assistant County Manager, Brian Haney, introduced the new Communications Director, Diane Rice, who previously worked for the City of Roanoke in Texas.
The Board acknowledged the Cumberland County Finance Department for receiving the 2022 Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. This is the 32nd year the County has received this award.
Several employees from the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension were recognized for their work. Jessica Drake received the Carolyn Stanley Barnes and George Edward Barnes 4-H Graduate Education Scholarship. Susan Johnson received the Ort Family Scholarship Award, and Candy Underwood received the Search for Excellence Award.
A presentation from DEC Associates was postponed due to the absence of several commissioners. The Board approved a series of items, including the rejection of a bid for banquet chairs, contract amendments, and the sale of surplus properties.
