LILLINGTON, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina troopers are currently investigating a car crash that left a Harnett County Sheriff’s Office deputy dead Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The wreck, in which two other people were injured, was reported around 2:55 p.m. along Darroch Road near N.C. 210, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The sheriff’s office later identified the deputy who died as Chris Johnson, 51, who was assigned as a school resource officer at Highland Middle School.
“Sheriff Coats asks that you pray for all the families involved in this tragedy,” Harnett County Maj. Aaron Meredith said in a news release.

Johnson served the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office for 16 months. He previously worked with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office for 16 years and the Dunn Police Department for 9 years.
