FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Douglas Byrd High School staff notified the School Resource Officer (SRO) of someone sleeping in a car in the parking lot on Thursday, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The SRO went to the car and saw a gun in the pocket of the person sleeping, who’s been identified as a juvenile. The weapon was taken without incident, the sheriff’s office said.

According to deputies, the gun had three rounds in the magazine, but didn’t have a round in the chamber.
Youth Services Detectives filed a petition Thursday with the Department of Juvenile Justice, charging the juvenile offender with possession of a firearm on campus, deputies said. The juvenile is being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice.
