Neighbors share insight into living near Deven family in North Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — After the adoptive mother of Blake and London Deven was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the disappearance of the two siblings, neighbors are sharing what it was like to live near the household.

Avantae Deven, of Fayetteville, was arrested Wednesday and charged with:

  • First-degree murder (2)
  • Kidnapping
  • Negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury
  • Intentional child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury
  • Destroying body/remains concealing unnatural death (2)

Adoptive mom charged with murder in disappearance of missing Deven siblings, Fayetteville police say

While many neighbors said they had no idea what was going on in the Deven house on Berriedale Drive, others tell CBS 17 they suspected something sinister.

“This the strangest thing that I’ve ever heard of,” said neighbor John Whitaker, who lives next door to the home.

While he has had little interaction with Deven’s adopted kids, he said he has never really spoken to the 63-year-old mom.
