FAST adjusting service on some routes because of bus driver shortage

A bus driver shortage will mean a change in the frequency of stops on several bus routes in Fayetteville beginning next month, the city announced Thursday.

On Sept. 9, according to a news release from the city of Fayetteville, the Fayetteville Area System of Transit will be rescheduling three routes in the city due to a shortage of drivers. The routes will still run Monday through Friday, but on the hour rather than the current service of every 30 minutes, the release said.

Here are the routes that will be affected next month:

  • Route 3 (Cedar Creek Road, East Fayetteville and Deep Creek)
  • Route 4 (Hillsborough, DSS and Rosehill Road)
  • Route 5 (Ramsey Street, Methodist University and the VA Medical Center).

The frequency of service on the weekend for the affected routes will remain the same.

FAST is actively searching for new bus drivers who have a Class B commercial driver license with passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions, the release said. FAST is also looking to hire Transit Operator Trainees. Applicants will be sent to Fayetteville Technical Community College to get their CDL and endorsements.
