The Cameo, Fayetteville’s downtown movie theater, is for sale, owners announce on Facebook

The Cameo Art House Theatre, which has been one of the symbols of downtown Fayetteville’s revitalization, is for sale.

“The theater will become available for new ownership at the end of 2024,” wrote owners Nasim and Chris Kuenzel on the movie house’s Facebook page Sunday. “We are looking for a new family, group or individual to carry on the legacy of Fayetteville’s historic cinema, maintain an inspirational arts venue, and shepherd the iconic edifice into its next visionary chapter.”

The Kuenzels, along with then-partner Eric Lindstrom, opened the Cameo at 225 Hay St in 2000, refurbishing historic space that first opened in 1914 as the New Dixie, a silent movie theater, the Kuenzels shared on Facebook. The movie house opened a second screen upstairs, The Loge, in 2002.

“Since then, the CAMEO has hosted countless award-winning films, festivals, movie premieres and community events,” the post reads. “Specializing in art and independent films that otherwise would not have been seen in Cumberland County is what endeared the CAMEO to devoted cinephiles.”
