Fuel transportation company opening new rail-connected facility in Fayetteville

A fuel transportation company with several sites in the U.S. has announced the opening of a new facility in Cumberland County.

Strategic Transload Services of Fayetteville is the corporation’s eighth location in the Southeast. The new site, connected to the CSX Rail line, aims to enhance the region’s ethanol distribution by providing direct rail connectivity from Midwest ethanol plants to a fuel depot off Murchison Road adjacent to the Global Partners terminal, according to a July news release.

“Our site has the capacity to eliminate trucking, increasing safety, reducing emissions, while also reducing the cost of every gallon we move to the Fayetteville area.  It also increases the effectiveness of supply, which minimizes supply disruptions,” said Von Friesen, principal of Strategic Transload Services.

What is transloading?

Friesen said transloading involves transferring goods between different modes of transportation, like from ship to train to truck. He said in this case, it was from a production facility to rail, then truck, and finally to the terminal. He said POET — the largest ethanol producer in the country — is supplying the majority of the ethanol to the Fayetteville area.
