National coffee chain plans Cumberland County debut in Hope Mills

A Minnesota-founded coffee company is growing its presence in North Carolina, including a forthcoming Hope Mills location.

Caribou Coffee is building a 625-square-foot drive-thru location with outdoor seating and a walk-up window at 5837 Lakewood Drive expected to open in November, general manager Jordan MacGregor said Thursday.

Located on a 0.5-acre property adjacent to CVS and Waffle House in the Traemoor Village shopping center, MacGregor said the store plans to hire up to 40 employees. Open positions are listed on the Caribou Coffee website .

Business hours are slated for 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, he said.

While the coffee shop is a national chain, MacGregor said he was raised on Fort Liberty and Hope Mills and graduated from Jack Britt High School, which is located across the street from the new Caribou Coffee.

“This is my stomping grounds,” he said. “I plan to be as involved in the community as possible.”

As the son of an Army veteran, MacGregor said he looks forward to serving the military community, and the coffee shop’s grand opening sales will support Children of Fallen Heroes , a nonprofit that provides education and enrichment to military families.
