Zion Gibbs update: Gun found months after being used to kill 7-year-old in Fayetteville drive-by

The gun used to kill 7-year-old Zion Gibbs has been found, according to Fayetteville Police Department.

Gibbs was shot in Fayetteville on June 7. He was inside his Danish Drive home when a bullet from a drive-by shooting tore through the walls and hit him.

Gibbs died three days later at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Nearly three months after the shooting, the Fayetteville Police Department announced a break in the case. Homicide detective Stephanie Berrios said another department had found a gun and testing confirmed it was the one used to kill Gibbs.

In addition, the grey Chrysler 200 police believe was used in the drive-by shooting had also been found. That Chrysler was found outside of Fayetteville on private property. Nobody was inside it, but there was a bullet hole in the front passenger side door.

Investigators said that bullet hole was not related to the drive-by shooting that killed Gibbs. Because of that, they are asking anyone with information about a grey Chrysler 200 that may have been involved in another shooting to come forward with information.
