Weather Permitting: Has Fayetteville seen its last 90-degree day of 2024?

Ready for a gutsy weather prediction?

I think Fayetteville has seen its last 90-plus-degree day of 2024.

In fact, if the temperature climbs back into the 90s, I’ll eat chocolate ice cream out of a red Solo cup with a spoon — and post a video of me doing it!

(Heck, I’ll probably do that, even if we don’t top 90 — I like ice cream!)

For folks who don’t keep up with the occasionally outrageous world of college football on social media, that’s just a way to say it’s looking likely that the Cape Fear region is slowly slipping into fall. Upper air patterns to the north and west will become more dominant as the month progresses.

There’s a chance a wayward pocket of summer air finds its way into the region. Later this month, we could see a temporary influx of warmth before the next cold front barges in. If so, I’ve got some chocolate ice cream on hand.

It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

Here’s the setup

Canadian high pressure continues to hold over the Carolinas, and it should hang around into the weekend. After that, look for another dry front to move through.
