Here’s what’s being built with the millions the Fayetteville airport just received in grants

Millions of dollars in federal and state grants will go toward an international arrivals terminal at the Fayetteville Regional Airport, the city announced recently.

The $7.3 million in grants includes $5 million, received Aug. 26, from the Federal Aviation Administration that was supported by Rep. David Rouzer and $2.3 million from the North Carolina Transportation Division of Aviation received Aug. 15, according to the release.

The International Arrivals facility, set to break ground in winter 2026, will at first be used for military aircraft returning from overseas, according to a news release from the city of Fayetteville. Ultimately, the terminal will create an entry point for international commercial flights and an onsite military flight department supporting the U.S. Army Reserve Command and U.S. Army Forces Command, as well as support regular military international travel via military and charter aircraft, the release said.

The approximately 15,000-square-foot building will accommodate a maximum hourly passenger rate of 200 people, the release said.
