Seesaws are about to line the streets of downtown Fayetteville. Why?

A public art installation coming to downtown Fayetteville will combine the fun of seesaws with the movement of water and sounds of the ocean, Cool Spring Downtown District announced Tuesday.

The e/motion interactive art installation, set to open Sept. 26, will be located throughout the downtown area from City Hall to Person Street. Each of the eight reimagined seesaws is enhanced with modern technology that causes a glowing liquid in the center to ebb and flow, Cool Spring Downtown District said in a news release.

Bianca Shoneman, CEO and president of the Cool Spring Downtown District, said Thursday that the seesaws can accommodate up to 1,000 pounds and can be used by both adults and children.

The temporary exhibit is being brought to Fayetteville by the city, PWC, the Arts Council of Fayetteville-Cumberland County and the Cool Spring Downtown District, the release said.

“Revitalizing downtown means bringing it to life with people and experiences,” Chris Cauley, the city’s director of Economic and Community Development, said in the release. “Placemaking initiatives like e/motion are fantastic opportunities to infuse the human experience into our downtown development efforts, and the City of Fayetteville is proud to support this initiative.”
