A 73-year-old man was jailed Tuesday in the killing a woman in Fayetteville on Oct. 1, a news release said.
Melvin Johnson Jr is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Devonna Fortune , 51.
According to the Fayetteville Police Department, the homicide took place about 4 p.m. along the 4300 block of Spinel Drive. Officers found Fortune dead at the scene, the release said.

Police said an autopsy conducted by the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Fortune’s death to be a homicide.
Johnson Jr., who lives in the 4300 block of Spinel Drive, was being held in the Cumberland County jail Tuesday without bail.
According to her obituary , Fortune has two children and five grandchildren.
