The cause of a fire that destroyed Kinlaw’s Supermarket in Fayetteville late Saturday is under investigation, Capt. Stephen Shakeshaft, spokesman for the Fayetteville Fire Department, said Sunday morning.
Shakeshaft said fire crews were called out to 1802 Sapona Road shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday. Fire crews first on scene reported heavy flames and requested additional units, a news release said.
Firefighters were still at the scene and roads directly in front of the business were still closed Sunday morning.
Shakeshaft said a team from the Fire Department is investigating the cause.
While the grocery store was destroyed, its not believed the restaurant, which is housed in a separate building to the rear of the lot, sustained damage. The business sits at the corner of Sapona Road and South Plymouth Street.
No injuries were reported, and the estimated cost of damages was unknown, the Fire Department said.
