Republican state Rep. Diane Wheatley overcame a challenge from Democrat Janene (Dublin) Ackles to keep her seat in the state House of Representatives, according to unofficial election results Tuesday.
Wheatley, a retired nurse who has served two terms in her District 43 seat on the North Carolina House of Representatives, garnered 24,536 votes or 57.46% to nonprofit business consultant Ackles’ 18,163 votes or 42.54%, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website .
District 43 covers Cumberland County east of the Cape Fear River, the Linden area, and some parts of southern, central and eastern Fayetteville.
