For the first time in more than a month, widespread rainfall is covering the Cape Fear region.
Expectations are for up to an inch of rain through Thursday night. That’s especially welcome news in portions of southern Cumberland and eastern Sampson County that have seen less than a quarter-inch of rain since Hurricane Helene in late September.
But those with weekend plans outdoors, don’t fret. It’s looking sunny and seasonal across the region, with temperatures easing back into the low 70s by early next week.
Here’s the setup
An upper-level trough is cutting through North Carolina today, with much cooler Canadian air behind it. The Cape Fear region won’t see the chilliest air, but there’s enough to force showers across the region into the evening.
There’s a slight chance of thunder in the region, especially to the east and north of Fayetteville. Severe weather isn’t expected, but rainfall could top 1 inch. Rain will ease overnight, and by Friday morning, Fayetteville should wake up to clouds and a brisk northerly flow.
