Lady Pirates rally late to walk off Bulldogs in Slugfest

FAIRMONT — The Lumberton Pirates battled from start to finish and overcame some adversity to walk off the St. Pauls Bulldogs 10-9 in the opening game of the Robeson County Slugfest.

“It wasn’t gonna be an easy game,” Lumberton coach Will Britt said. “We’re going to come out, have to fight and make sure we have the energy from the first pitch to the last pitch. I challenged the girls to just get on the fence, bring as much energy as they could and, and just find, fight and find a way to win the ballgame.”

The Pirates (10-12) now advance to the semifinals Monday at 4 p.m. as Lumberton will face Scotland. The Bulldogs (8-9) will face Red Springs in the consolation round at 10 a.m…
