Salem Red Sox can’t hold early lead in 5-4 loss at Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WSET) — An early rally for the Salem Red Sox wasn’t enough down the stretch, as Fayetteville rallied in the 6th and 7th innings for a 5-4 win to start the Sox road trip.

Salem (12-15) jumped out quickly in the first on a RBI double by Freili Encarnacion, plating Andruw Musett. Starlyn Nunez would bring Encarnacion home shortly thereafter for a 2-0 lead. Fayetteville (15-13) got one back in the bottom of hte 1st, but Encarnacion blasted a 2-run home run to dead center field in the 4th inning that made it 4-1 Salem.

From there, however, the Woodpeckers would continue to peck away at the lead, with two runs in the 6th, and two more in the 7th. Keduar Trujillo’s RBI single in the bottom 7th proved to be the game winner…
