Fayetteville men convicted of Morganton Road murder sentenced to more than a decade in prison

A Cumberland County jury found one man guilty and another pleaded recently in the fatal shooting a young father outside a Morganton Road convenience store in 2023.

Montez Damarcus Lofton, 25, pleaded guilty April 9 to voluntary manslaughter and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle in the shooting death of Ernest Jabri Bullock , 25. Shumpert was sentenced to no less than 13 years and up to 17 years, eight months in prison, court records state.

As a result of the plea, charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder were dismissed, the record states. Also dismissed in exchange for the plea were unrelated pending charges of manufacturing cocaine, felony conspiracy to manufacture and possession of a firearm by a felon…
