SP bids farewell to retiring K-9

Southern Pines Police K-9 Ivy retired on May 20 after nearly nine years of service. Southern Pines Police Chief Nick Polidori said Ivy’s “tour of duty” began on Sept. 1, 2016.

“K-9 Ivy’s strong working drive led to a successful career that benefitted our community,” said Polidori in a statement. “During K-9 Ivy’s career, she proved to be a valuable asset for the Southern Pines Police Department and surrounding jurisdictions.”

Ivy sniffed 662 vehicles, assisted with 12 search warrants, assisted other agencies in Moore County 58 times on calls for service, and located missing or wanted persons. Ivy’s versatility led to the seizure of numerous amounts of narcotics, including cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and other narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Ivy’s alerts led to the seizure of 41 weapons on traffic stops, search warrants, tracks, and article searches. Overall, $105,723 in cash was seized during her career…
