James Brown filled up his white work truck around noon on a typically hot Sandhills day out near Hope Mills.
He chose the Circle K at 327 Chicken Foot Road, off Interstate 95. He had options.
While Brown chose a smaller convenience store, Exit 41 is populated with some gasoline giants, including a Sheetz across the road and even another Circle K, less than a quarter-mile up the road.
