James Brown filled up his white work truck around noon on a typically hot Sandhills day out near Hope Mills.

He chose the Circle K at 327 Chicken Foot Road, off Interstate 95. He had options.

While Brown chose a smaller convenience store, Exit 41 is populated with some gasoline giants, including a Sheetz across the road and even another Circle K, less than a quarter-mile up the road. Not to be outdone, a large Wawa is under construction behind a fence and will be separated from the larger Circle K by a strip of access road. The larger stations are also truck stops…
