Criminal justice teacher put student in ‘choke hold’ until he ‘lost consciousness’: police

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WKRC) – A teacher and coach was arrested allegedly placed a teenage student into a “choke hold” and strangled him until he “lost consciousness.”

According to an arrest warrant obtained by Law&Crime, 41-year-old Devon Murphy was arrested after he allegedly strangled a 15-year-old student at Douglas Byrd High School in March of 2025.

Murphy was accused of “putting his arm around the juvenile victim’s neck in a choke hold position until the victim lost consciousness,” resulting in “swelling on the right side of the juvenile victim’s forehead.”…
