Wawa to open first travel center in North Carolina

Wawa will debut its first-ever travel center later this month in Hope Mills, North Carolina, marking a new step in the retailer’s expansion strategy. The 8,000-square-foot location is scheduled to open on Aug. 28 and will be designed with professional drivers in mind, according to Truckers News.

The site will feature six high-speed diesel fuel lanes, a CAT weigh station, free parking for tractor-trailers, a pet relief area and upgraded restrooms. The store will also accept over-the-road (OTR) payment systems.

“We are thrilled to pilot this new format in Hope Mills and believe this new travel center model is a great way to bring Wawa to customers while serving a need to the travelers,” said John Poplawski, Wawa Chief Real Estate Officer, speaking to Truckers News. “Not only will our Wawa Travel Center meet the fueling needs of professional drivers, while also remaining a community hub for local friends and neighbors to enjoy.”…
