Cumberland County OKs a short-term solution to help unhoused displaced by shelter closure

Cumberland County will provide temporary assistance to unhoused individuals or families at risk of homelessness as a short-term solution after the Salvation Army closed its Fayetteville shelter in April.

Cumberland County commissioners unanimously approved allocating $250,000 for a homeless prevention and stabilization voucher pilot program at their Aug. 25 meeting.

The funding comes from freed-up funds through the American Rescue Plan, and the program will be administered by the Cumberland County Community Development Department, interim Community Development Director Tye Vaught said…
