‘No detail is too small’: Scotland County authorities turn to public for answers in nearly 5-year-old homicide investigation

SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — “No detail is too small. Even the smallest tip could make a big difference,” the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday as they asked for the public’s help finding Kierra Ellison’s killer.

Ellison, who deputies said lived in nearby Hoke County, North Carolina, was shot and killed on Dec. 17, 2020, in the Laurel Hill area of Scotland County. Authorities found her dead in the driver’s seat of her vehicle on Cliff Gibson Road.

Investigators said they believe she knew her killer or killers and that her death was not a random act of violence. Her death is classified as a cold case but investigators are actively “pursuing all leads,” the sheriff’s office said.

“We believe someone in the community has information that could help us identify the person or persons responsible for Kierra’s death,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said…
