Uncle Carl is a household name here in Fayetteville. The owner of Flip Flop Sauce, his own personal BBQ sauce, sells it locally, including at Food Lion and restaurants like Dad Bod Food Truck. A portion of the sales is used to fund Uncle Carl’s Safe Space. From his magnetic smile to his equally magnetic heart, the DC native is the epitome of a community leader. While his humbleness would never let him forget it, he has truly put in the work in the community, even when the cameras aren’t rolling. A selfless individual with a passion to not only feed the community but to bring a bit of sunshine. Through his nonprofit, We Are One Big Family, Uncle Carl has fed countless community members who experience food insecurity, setting up the grill and serving free food with a smile around Fayetteville.
You can’t miss his iconic Flip Flop Sauce van with trailer and grill in tow. Once he touches down, you know everyone will have a full belly. Uncle Carl doesn’t do it all on his own. He has the support of other community members with the same mission in mind: “make sure everyone eats.”
