Weather Permitting: Fayetteville region in for whiplash with this weekend’s forecast

If you thought summer was finished with the Cape Fear region — think again.

Fayetteville will see its hottest temperatures since July this weekend before another shot of cooler air returns. There’s also a chance of scattered showers.

Meanwhile, the tropics are shaking off a monthlong slumber, and things may get interesting next week.

After a delightful Labor Day weekend, look for much warmer air to filter back into the Carolinas. The parade of cold fronts that held us in the 80s much of August will take a break, stalling to our north. This will allow above-seasonal warmth to flood back into the region…
