Spring Creek hands Raiders first conference loos

After an emotional win Monday night against Princeton to kick off conference play, the Midway soccer squad was back on the field in more Swine Valley 2A/3A action Wednesday, hosting Spring Creek. The Gators the mid-week contest with a 3-5 overall record, coming in off a conference win of their own against James Kenan. When all was done Wednesday night, Spring Creek proved to be a stronger team than their record indicated, leaving Spivey’s Corner with a 2-1 win.

After Midway applied some pressure against the Gators goalkeeper in the early moments, it was Spring Creek who put together the game’s first goal. After clearing the ball, they raced away to the other end of the field and got a fast goal, getting in close for the point at the 36:06 mark.

After that, the Gators maintained their pressure, frequently overpowering the Raiders and maintaining possession in the Midway zone. One notable advantage for Spring Creek was speed, which outmatched the Raiders at several positions, and allowed them to generate plenty of scoring chances…
