The search for one of two suspects in the North Bethesda homicide case saw progress with the recent capture of 18-year-old Joshua Carter in Fayetteville, NC, this past Wednesday. Montgomery County officials released information that Carter was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontava, as reported on the Montgomery County Department of Police website. Fontava was tragically shot inside his apartment on September 21.
In the ongoing investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Homicide Section, it was determined that Carter was at a residence in North Carolina. The U.S. Marshals Service – Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force, Fayetteville Division, moved in and apprehended Carter without incident. He’s now facing charges that include first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, and two counts of armed robbery, and remains in custody in North Carolina, pending extradition to Montgomery County.
The case, however, has not yet closed. Justin Michael Greene Collins, age 25, has been identified as the second suspect involved and is still at large. Law enforcement officials are turning to the public for assistance.
