BENSON – Mark your calendars and grab your lawn chairs. The town of Benson is preparing to honor veterans in grand fashion with a full day of patriotic festivities on Saturday, November 1, 2025. From early morning races to a vibrant Main Street parade and a delicious BBQ cook-off, the Veterans Day celebration promises fun for the whole family.
The day begins at 7:30 AM with the check-in for the Benson Parks & Rec “Run for the Brave” 5K. The race starts at 9:00 AM, followed by an awards ceremony at 10:30 AM. Runners of all ages are encouraged to participate in this salute to service members.
At 11:00 AM, downtown Benson will come alive with the Veterans Day Parade on Main Street, featuring crowd favorites The Dunn Sudan Clowns and the Johnston County Sudan Shriners Animated Animals. Following the parade, head over to The Grove for a special program beginning at 12:15 PM.
Hungry parade-goers won’t want to miss the NC Whole Hog BBQ Cook-Off. Plates are available for $10 each, but all veterans eat free.
There’s plenty for kids to enjoy at Kid’s Zone in The Grove, open from 12 PM to 2 PM.
Car enthusiasts can enjoy the Car and Motorcycle Show, sponsored by Southland Car Club. The first 100 cars to register will receive a dash plaque, so early arrival is encouraged…
