NC suspect in double homicide dies by suicide during investigation in Hoke County

Authorities say a juvenile suspected in a double homicide in Hoke County died by suicide after law enforcement found them near the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina campus in Lake Waccamaw Monday night.

Deputies with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6 p.m. on Monday to a home on Cope Road in Red Springs for a report of cardiac arrest. When they arrived, they found two people unresponsive. The deaths are being investigated as a double homicide. Officials have not released the victims’ names or cause of death to ABC11 News, and it remains unclear how they died.

Investigators then began searching for a juvenile suspect. Later that night, they found the suspect’s vehicle roughly an hour southeast of the crime scene in Columbus County. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said the car was found near the Boys and Girls Homes campus at Lake Waccamaw.
