BATON ROUGE, La. — Allison Shew of Benson, North Carolina, has been elected to membership in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, at the University of South Alabama.
Shew is among roughly 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni who are initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Eligibility is limited to the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors. Graduate students in the top 10% of candidates for graduate degrees, as well as faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction, may also qualify.
Founded in 1897 by undergraduate Marcus L. Urann, Phi Kappa Phi was created to recognize academic excellence across all disciplines. Today, the society has chapters on more than 300 campuses across the United States and its territories. Its mission is to “cultivate a community that celebrates and advances the love of learning.”…
