Two students from Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) were recognized at the Greater Fayetteville Business Journal’s Third Annual Health Care Heroes Awards. The event took place on November 13, 2025. Sarah Kirby, a Surgical First Assistant student, and Sabrina Woolard, a first-semester Nursing student, each received a $500 scholarship to support their education.
Sarah Kirby completed FTCC’s Surgical Technology Program and maintains a 4.0 GPA. She works at Cape Fear Valley Health’s Betsy Johnson Hospital and mentors other students as a preceptor. Dr. Terry Herring, Division Chair of Surgical Services, nominated Kirby for her leadership and focus on patient safety.
Sabrina Woolard is new to the Nursing program. She participates in the Student Nurses’ Association and volunteers at events, including the program’s ‘Bear-Stuffing’ initiative for grieving families.
