Cumberland County deputy involved in shooting suspect holding knife, sheriff’s office says

An investigation is underway after a Cumberland County deputy shot a person on Tuesday, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) said.

The SBI said the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of Camden Road, a Fayetteville address in the Hope Mills area. The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a domestic call.

When deputies got there, they came across a person with a knife. The deputy instructed the suspect to drop the knife, but the person lunged toward the deputy with the knife, CCSO said.

That’s when the deputy shot the person. They then rendered first aid until medical personnel arrived. The suspect was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known…
